The University of Porto climbed 59 places to enter the world’s top 150 most sustainable universities, excelling in Social Impact and Environmental Research
The University of Porto has made a significant leap in the "QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026”, securing the 150th position worldwide and 78th in Europe. This placement follows an impressive rise of 59 spots compared with the previous edition, reflecting the institution’s strengthened commitment to addressing global environmental, social and governance challenges. With a total score of 86.5 out of 100, U.Porto stands out among more than 2,000 universities assessed.
The university’s strongest performance appears in the Social Impact category, where it now ranks 97th globally, entering the exclusive group of the world’s top 100 institutions. This ranking assesses indicators such as Equality, Knowledge Transfer, Educational Impact, Employability and Opportunities, and Health & Wellbeing. U.Porto particularly excels in Knowledge Transfer (48th) and Educational Impact (89th), reinforcing its role as an institution with strong academic influence and societal relevance.
In the Environmental Impact domain, U.Porto has also made remarkable progress, climbing 123 positions to reach 200th place worldwide. Its greatest advancement is in Environmental Research where it surged 262 spots to 59th. This indicator evaluates the influence of research in key sustainability areas such as climate change, sustainable cities, health, clean energy and land and marine ecosystems, all aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
These advances highlight U.Porto’s continued investment in a holistic and responsible institutional model. This achievement reinforces Porto’s position as an emerging hub for innovation, sustainability and high-quality research, strengthening the city’s global academic visibility and its appeal to international talent and partnerships.
