U.Porto strengthens its position among the European engineering elite

FEUP consolidates position in the top 15% of European engineering education

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) has once again been recognised among the leading engineering schools in Europe, securing a place in the top 15% of institutions evaluated in the 2025 edition of the European Ranking of Engineering Programs (EngiRank). This achievement comes in a year marked by a significant expansion of the ranking, which included 55 additional higher education institutions, making the assessment more competitive and comprehensive than ever.

In 2025, FEUP ranked 34th among 239 institutions, with a final score of 74.36. Although this represents a slight drop in absolute position compared to 2024, when it placed 33rd among 184 institutions, the broader evaluation context means FEUP improved its relative standing from the top 17% to the top 15%. This shift highlights a clear strengthening of the Faculty’s competitiveness within a more demanding European landscape.

Performance improved across all scientific areas evaluated. Notable progress was recorded in Civil Engineering, which rose to the top 22% in Europe, and Chemical Engineering, which advanced to the top 30%. Significant gains were also observed in Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering, all of which showed marked improvements compared to the previous year. Biomedical Engineering further consolidated its strong position, reaching the top 24% in Europe.

Overall, the 2025 results confirm FEUP’s consistent growth and resilience, demonstrating its ability not only to maintain a prominent position but also to evolve positively across all areas of engineering education in an increasingly competitive European environment. This achievement reinforces Porto’s reputation as a growing European hub for engineering excellence and innovation.
