Porto Maintains its Commitment to Free Programming School with 100% Employability Rate
Porto. · 18 Sep 2024
Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, and Ricardo Valente, the City Councillor for Economy, Employment, and Entrepreneurship, recently visited 42, a programming school that arrived to Porto in 2022 and that already welcomed more than 1,300 students. What Rui Moreira and Ricardo Valente witnessed were not classes, but an innovative and gamified method that promotes learning without classrooms, without schedules, and without teachers.

A 2023 impact study showed that students who completed the school’s training programme were likely to increase their current salary threefold, with 100% employability rates six months following completion of the training.
For the Municipality, support for 42’s project is part of the strategy to promote Porto as a city that fosters the qualification and re-qualification of its citizens in areas that will make it possible to meet the recruitment needs of companies, particularly belonging to sectors with greater added value for the local and digital economy.

In July, the City’s Executive unanimously approved new funding for 42, worth up to 250,000€, in order for the school to implement an intensive bootcamp course where, after passing online tests, participants learn the basics of programming and discover the peer-to-peer method adopted by 42.
