Porto hosts national start-ups competition

Venture Cup, a global organization for start-ups in a university context, will gather today, 30 June, in Casa da Música, "the most promising start-ups” associated with national universities.
According to the organization, the 10 start-ups were selected from a large number of candidates and represent such diverse ideas as "a social network for sportsmen or a platform for real estate investment." These 10 represent universities from all cross the country, and among them there will be 3 universities from Porto: iSociety, from Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto, Faculty of Engineering from University of Porto; Framie, from University of Porto; and Oko, from ISEP - Porto Engineering Polytechnic School.
In the final of the Venture Cup National Start-up Competition 2017, each project will present to entrepreneurs, businessmen and students, with the audience determining which winning start-up wins a prize of 5,000,000 euros and becomes Portugal’s representative at the World Start-up Competition in Denmark, in September.
On the importance of such an initiative, Venture Cup CEO, Human Shojaee, says that "there is a lot of potential in Portugal", an "obvious place to be when one wishes to influence and to be at the forefront of entrepreneurship".
