Braining opens space at PORTIC and strengthens ties with Porto Polytechnic
Braining, an artificial intelligence and virtual reality stroke-rehab startup, has opened a new office at PORTIC, reinforcing its rapid growth and strong link to Porto Polytechnic’s innovation network
Braining, a startup founded by two young entrepreneurs, one of them an alumnus of the Polytechnic of Porto, officially opened its new incubated office at Startup Porto, located within the Porto Innovation Centre - PORTIC. The ceremony on 21 November marks an important milestone in the company’s trajectory, which has developed and matured entirely within Porto Polytechnic’s innovation ecosystem.
The project originated in the Poliempreende competition, where it stood out for its innovative use of Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality to support stroke-patient rehabilitation. After securing the regional first prize and the national second place, the team gained access to its initial incubation phase at Startup Porto, benefiting from structured support and expert mentoring.
Throughout this development period, Braining refined its concept and built the technological solution, positioning the company as a solid and expanding venture in the health-tech field. The inauguration event gathered several institutional representatives, including the President of the School of Health, Cristina Prudêncio, and Porto Polytechnic’s Vice-President, António Marques, who emphasised the positive contribution of such initiatives to innovation and knowledge transfer within the institution.
Braining’s installation at PORTIC symbolises both a new stage in its growth and the continued relevance of PORTIC and Startup Porto as key drivers of technological entrepreneurship in the region. The company is currently working towards obtaining Porto Polytechnic’s official spin-off status, reinforcing its academic roots and the market impact it aims to achieve.
