ADECI, a start-up incubated at UPTEC (Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto), has been recognised as one of Portugal’s most promising startups by EU-Startups, which recently highlighted 10 innovative Portuguese ventures.

Founded in 2023 by Telmo Taipa and Helder Pereira, ADECI has developed an AI-based forecasting platform tailored for the restaurant sector. The solution analyses historical operational data alongside external variables that influence daily activity to forecast sales, customer flows, product demand, ingredient consumption and staffing needs. By improving demand forecasting, ADECI enables businesses to reduce costs, minimise food waste and make more informed operational decisions.

The company has also been gaining traction beyond Portugal. In 2025, ADECI secured €500,000 in funding from Portugal Ventures and expanded its presence into the Spanish market. Looking ahead, the startup plans to broaden its technology into additional sectors such as retail and supply chain management, while targeting 25,000 establishments across European markets.

The EU-Startups list also features other emerging Portuguese ventures, including ChainReactor, which secured third place in the national final of the ClimateLaunchpad in 2024 with a solution that uses renewable energy-powered modular 3D printers to produce customisable bioreactors from biomaterials or recycled plastic.

Other startups highlighted in the article include BM2Solar, BloodFlow, DOJO AI, Jsonify, Litehaus, Manie and NextBorder, showcasing the dynamism and diversity of Portugal’s startups.
