The University of Porto shines globally with 205 researchers among 2024’s most cited and 138 honoured for career-long impact. The list of the most cited researchers at U. Porto (with the highest C-Score) in 2024 is led by João Gama from the Faculty of Economics (FEP) and INESC TEC. Following him is a trio of academics and researchers - João Catalão, António Joaquim Mendes Ferreira, and Manuel Simões - all from the Faculty of Engineering (FEUP).
The 2025 edition of the "World’s Top 2% Scientists list”, published by the prestigious Elsevier and compiled by researchers from Stanford University, highlighted 205 scientists from the University of Porto among the world’s most cited in 2024 - 23 more than in the previous year.
The list also features 138 U. Porto researchers with the highest career-long impact, reinforcing the university’s position as the most represented Portuguese institution.
These researchers stand out in fields such as Clinical Medicine, Chemistry, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Biology, and Economics. Globally, the list includes more than 236,000 scientists, 984 of whom are affiliated with Portuguese institutions, with over 20% associated with U. Porto.
